Exclusive | Hong Kong Aberdeen marina project attracting local and overseas interest

Hong Kong’s Aberdeen marina-residential tourism project has attracted local and overseas interest, with the city’s leading yacht club and a Singapore-based operator seeking partnerships with developers to expand their presence.

Experts in the real estate and boating industries said developers would be keen to work with local, mainland Chinese or overseas marina operators to strengthen their bids and tap into the market, while urging the government to improve infrastructure and reinforce the project’s position as a premium tourism development.

Part of the government’s efforts to promote the yacht economy, the Aberdeen project will feature 250 private flats and 200 berths for yachts of up to 50 metres (164 feet) in length. The tender will be launched in the first half of 2027 – the first for a marina in almost 40 years.

SUTL Enterprise, a Singapore-based marina developer and operator, was among eight firms that submitted expressions of interest when the government sought market views last year. The company owns the ONE°15 Marina brand, with branches in Singapore and Indonesia.

While expanding in Thailand and Malaysia, its flagship marina at Singapore’s Sentosa Cove hosts international events and offers more than 300 berths, along with a private club and hotel.

Jonathan Sit, regional general manager of the enterprise’s Marina Division, told the South China Morning Post the company saw strong potential in Hong Kong, citing its mature yachting market, sizeable pool of high-net-worth individuals, coming marina projects and evolving policies.
