Hong Kong to unveil 71 measures to level up creative, cultural sectors on Tuesday

A long-delayed blueprint covering 71 measures intended to take the development of Hong Kong’s creative and cultural sectors to the next level will be unveiled on Tuesday, the Post has learned.

Government sources also said on Monday that the Blueprint for Arts and Culture and Creative Industries Development, which was originally supposed to be implemented a year ago, would set out a broad direction for developing such industries.

Three insiders said authorities would encourage the private sector to support the development through financing programmes and projects, with the blueprint referring to existing funds such as the CreateSmart Initiative, the Film Development Fund and the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund.

“We have some money in the pocket, but the government will negotiate with the private sector in specific areas of development to follow up on the blueprint’s execution,” one of the sources said.

The road map is part of government efforts to create new economic drivers while also offering more opportunities in professions popular among young people, in a bid to make Hong Kong a more appealing global city.

The blueprint will also outline the city’s efforts to align with the mandate from Beijing’s 14th five-year development plan for Hong Kong to become an “East-meets-West” centre for international cultural exchange.
