Hong Kong leader John Lee Ka-chiu met visiting officials from 12 countries on Monday to promote the city’s market-oriented advantages and business-friendly environment, although the government did not disclose the nations they were representing.
The government only said Lee met a visiting delegation of “high-profile government officials from 12 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Oceania” to enhance exchanges and cooperation.
The Post approached the Chief Executive’s Office for comment.
“As the world’s freest economy, Hong Kong boasts a highly internationalised, market-oriented and friendly business environment, making it an ideal place for companies to expand their global operations,” a government spokesman said.
“[Lee] welcomed businesses worldwide to use Hong Kong as a platform to explore overseas and mainland markets, achieving mutual benefits.”
The meeting was arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ministry’s arm in Hong Kong, according to the statement.
