Hong Kong’s first pyrotechnics drone show triggered waves of “wows” from the crowd as 1,000 of the unmanned aerial vehicles flew over Victoria Harbour on Saturday night shooting out fireworks and forming images of the city’s six giant pandas.
But the 10-minute show at West Kowloon Cultural District, organised by design studio AllRightsReserved, was not without its hiccups, as some drones were seen dropping into the harbour at the end. The Post has asked the design studio for comment.
In one highlight, about five minutes into the show, the drones assembled to create a three-dimensional panda, which then rotated in the sky before they shot off pyrotechnics.
Each change in the visuals was met with a chorus of “wow” and “beautiful” from the tens of thousands gathered at the Art Park and elsewhere along the West Kowloon harbourside.
“This is my first time watching this kind of show. It feels very creative and interesting,” said Queenie Wu, a 24-year-old finance professional.
Wu added that her favourite moments included the countdown at the beginning of the drone show and when the drones created a pattern of the panda waving to the crowd.
