Tsunami warning issued after 7.4-magnitude earthquake hits off Japan

TOKYO: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 struck off the northeastern coast of Japan on Monday (Apr 20) afternoon, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

It warned of a tsunami as high as 3m in Iwate prefecture and parts of Hokkaido.

There was also a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck off the east coast of Honshu.
