Officials in Malaysia have seized a car, alongside several sacks and cages, after a video showing a group of men rounding up cats and stuffing them into bags went viral.

The Selangor Veterinary Department said a team of officers had been dispatched to Batu 9, Cheras, on Sunday in response to the incident.

“Initial checks revealed the incident occurred between 9am and 3pm on Saturday,” the department said in statement.

“We seized a car, sacks, and several cages believed to have been used to round up the cats.”

The cats were reportedly dumped elsewhere after being stuffed into the bags. One of the group of men caught on camera in the viral video denied allegations of animal abuse.
