Eighty-five business heavyweights have pledged to support and participate in Hong Kong’s Northern Metropolis megaproject near the mainland China border, with a senior Beijing official urging them to take part in reforms to cope with global changes.
Leaders from local, mainland Chinese and overseas enterprises signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Friday to support the mega development that aims to turn 30,000 hectares (74,130 acres) of land in the New Territories into an economic powerhouse and housing hub.
The businesses cover property and infrastructure development, banking and innovation.
Among the big mainland enterprises were China State Construction Engineering, China Railway Group, China Merchants Group, China Everbright Group, China Travel Service, Bank of China, China Resources and Alibaba Cloud.
Major Hong Kong firms taking part included Sun Hung Kai Properties, Henderson Land Development, New World Development, Wheelock Properties, Swire Properties, Great Eagle and Kowloon Development.
