Hong Kong and Shenzhen have discussed extending border service hours for the New Year’s Eve countdown fireworks show, the government has revealed, with authorities coordinating travel arrangements with transport operators.

A Security Bureau spokesman said on Monday that discussions between the government and Shenzhen involved extending border service hours for New Year’s Eve, including at the Lo Wu and Shenzhen Bay checkpoints.

“Mainland port authorities have submitted the necessary reports to the national port authorities for approval according to procedures,” he said.

“Details will be announced as soon as possible.”

The Transport Department and different operators would make corresponding traffic arrangements for the countdown fireworks, the government said.

“[They] include coordinating service hours and schedules to meet passenger travel needs, as well as providing the latest traffic information through different channels,” it said, adding details would also be announced in due course.
