This weekend there is no shortage of things to see, do, eat, and browse in Hong Kong, and surely Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine is the highlight.
However, since it is also the studio’s first Category III, adults-only release, it is not for everyone. Still, there are plenty more activities across the city that cater to all ages. Here are our top recommendations.
1. Deadpool & Wolverine
Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with this riotously entertaining superhero team-up, which also marks Deadpool’s third outing (following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox). It is easily the most fun that the blockbuster franchise has had in years.
Reynolds’ “merc with a mouth” plays nicely opposite Jackman’s taciturn, claw-handed killer as they pummel each other, and myriad assailants, in the most violent manner possible.
Parents should take note that this is not the usual Category IIA release that the MCU has long been known for. Deadpool & Wolverine has been given a Category III rating in Hong Kong, meaning only adults will be allowed to watch it. Read our full review

2. AIA One Billion Week’s ninja challenge
An outdoor ninja challenge will take place at the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and AIA Vitality Park, where people can compete in a contest to conquer 11 obstacles in the fastest time.
For those less skilled, certified coaches will be hosting workshops and teaching basic ninja skills, including swinging, hand-eye coordination, jumping techniques and climbing.
The 50-minute workshops are suitable for those aged six and up; children aged 10 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those aged 16 and above are welcome to take part in the challenge, which has a time limit of 50 minutes. If they fall, they must start again from the beginning.
Workshops will run throughout the week (July 27-August 4) and the challenge sessions will run mostly during the evenings. The event is free, but you must register and reserve a ticket. 3. It’s About Time!: exhibition of Sam Wong’s photography
In a career spanning more than four decades, Hong Kong photographer Sam Wong has created innumerable album covers, posters for concerts and films, and worked with some of the city’s biggest names in Cantopop and cinema, including Leslie Cheung, Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui and Danny Chan.
His first solo exhibition, at the Hong Kong Design Institute, pays tribute to his artistry as well as Hong Kong’s cultural golden age.

4. Olé – nine-course Spanish weekend brunch
In honour of its 26th anniversary, Olé Spanish Restaurant is offering a new nine-course Spanish weekend brunch menu (HK$498/US$64) until October 27.
Guests can indulge in a serving of six starters, which includes Spanish Iberico ham with tomato bread, a main course and unlimited servings of Spanish paella.
End the meal on a sweet note with your choice of pears cooked in mulled wine with ice cream, meringue with berries compote, or churros with hot chocolate.

5. Africa Store pop-up
The Africa Store has been importing quality handmade jewellery, housewares and skincare products from the continent to Hong Kong since opening in 2019. Pick up a unique product at its pop-up at the Airside shopping centre in Kai Tak in Kowloon from July 26-28, with highlights including handmade glass-bead earrings and glass bead clutches.
