Edgar Tang was 32 and on holiday in London when a call from his doctor changed his life. He was diagnosed with stage three Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system. His only symptom had been a swollen lymph node on the left side of his neck, something he had been inclined to ignore.

The diagnosis left him contemplating his mortality, his future and how he would care for his parents. He recalls walking from Covent Garden towards the Tate Modern art gallery, crossing the Millennium Bridge and dreading what lay ahead.

Then came an unexpected moment of comfort.
