‘This is your time,’ said Roberta Metsola, also calling on EU member states to increase pressure on Tehran as protests continue

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Sunday urged anti-government protesters in Iran to continue demonstrating despite a harsh crackdown by the Islamic Republic.
“To those brave girls, students, men and women on the streets: This is your time,” Metsola wrote on X.
Referring to continuing internet blackouts, she added: “Know that any regime that blocks communication is a regime that is terrified of its own people.”
Metsola appealed to the leadership in Tehran to change course, emphasising that dignity and freedom are not too much to ask for in 2026.
“The killing must stop. The innocent and persecuted must be released. The repression must end,” she wrote.
She also called on EU member states to increase pressure on Tehran, without specifying how this could be done, stating: “Europe must understand its duty and need to act.”
