Shanghai is cleaning up after being lashed by Typhoon Bebinca, its biggest tropical cyclone in 75 years.

Police and emergency workers were out in force on Monday dealing with sporadic flooding caused by the worst storm of its kind since deadly Typhoon Gloria hit the city in 1949.

Back then, Gloria reportedly killed more than 1,600 people in the country’s financial centre but this time there were no fatalities.

By noon, Bebinca’s centre had moved beyond the city, allowing flights to resume landing at Shanghai’s two major airports at around 2pm, and the first outbound flights to depart after 3pm.

Some metro line services also resumed from 2pm in Shanghai.
