Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially received a peace plan drawn up in the United States to end the war with Russia, his office said on Thursday.
“As a result of today’s meeting, we have agreed to work on the points of the plan in such a way that it leads to a dignified end to the war,” Zelensky’s office wrote on Telegram after a meeting with a delegation of senior US military officials.
It emphasised that Ukraine has been striving for a peaceful solution since the beginning of the war and will support any substantive proposal that brings “real peace” closer, noting its cooperation with previous proposals by US President Donald Trump.
“We are now also ready to work constructively with the American side and our partners in Europe and around the world to achieve peace,” the statement said.
His office said Zelensky hopes to speak to Trump soon to discuss the main points of the draft plan, details of which were not disclosed by Kyiv.
US and British media outlets reported on Wednesday that Washington had drafted a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending the war, which was launched by Russia in February 2022, without Kyiv’s input.
Washington’s blueprint, as reported by the Financial Times, is believed to include wide-ranging concessions to Moscow, calling on Ukraine to cut the size of its army by half and cede Russian-occupied eastern provinces including Donetsk and Luhansk.
